Kids love finding the hidden duck on each page!

Love these books. They have lots of rhyming words for the kids to sound out. The stories are cute. Each page has a little duck hiding that can make reluctant readers excited to turn the page and find the duck.
Cons They are a little too long for a true beginner. My son is a very beginner reader who I am teaching to read at home. These books were about 3 pages too long for him. I switched to bob books so my son could read most of the book by himself. I will bring these back out when he had gotten a little used to reading books mostly by himself.

Society is quickly starting to unravel. Scavenging, begging, and thievery have already become the code of the day. He had to get home!
It should be an easy go. Head out of town south as the crow flies. Be home in two days time. But just as in anyone's life: there are trials, there are decisions... and there is humanity. How could everything go sideways so quickly? Roy knew that eventually the savagery would begin between humans trying to survive, but he never expected it to happen so quickly. So many need help, but survival means hard choices have to be made. You can't save 'em all!

Written for boys but the Bible is for everyone

Just like its female counterpart, The Revolution Bible features the best and worst of themed Bibles aimed at the teen crowds but can still encourage your teen boy to read it for themselves. Again, by combining the New International Version (NIV) with commentary aimed to address the concerns of the growing Christian boy, Zondervan as created a Bible that even I, an older man, can appreciate.

The NIV Revolution Bible is the male counterpart of the true images Bible, both published by Zondervan, which was created for boys 13-16 that features the NIV translation with comprehensive commentary designed to appeal and encourage the growing Christian boy with inspirational and doctrinal notes that address topics as mundane as personal relationships to provocative as sexuality to larger, page length profiles of men in the Bible and supposedly first hand accounts of Christian boys encountering some problems. The editors at Zondervan really book a lot of effort into this Bible because the commentary seems to be featured on every other page.

Unfortunately like other themed Bibles created by Zondervan, its patronage quickly falls flat - for whatever reason, the dominant colors are a combination of white, black, and green which I suppose is suppose to give it a masculine edge. The included feature pages are made of a different stock than the printed pages and spaced at an arbitrary 1/6th page intervals so the cited verse is rarely near the book that its in. Published about the same time as True Images, its view of homosexuality still appeals to the clichéd that same-sex attraction comes from sexual abuse or that it was a choice to justify its Christian discrimination. I am indifferent to someone's sexual orientation but in the years that have elapsed, it becomes more apparent that entries like these will leave a uncomfortable scar in Church history for years to come.

Nonetheless, it is still a decent Bible. I have an old maxim that the best Bibles are those that read and discussed together, regardless of the translation (excluding the New World Translation) or who are the publisher intended the audience to be. I believe that the Revolution Bible for teen boys is a great introduction to the Bible for the boy who might be the only the Christian in the family or a conversation starter for the maturing Christian boy trying to get beyond their parents faith and develop their own.

This book makes some good points about how to teach speaking of the English ...

This book makes some good points about how to teach speaking of the English Language when it compares how natives English Speakers learn language from birth. It opened up my mind to some different ways of approaching my students which will be helpful. We will be going on field trips to different places and stores in the local area for vocabulary lessons. I will include pictures with all new vocabulary plus we will learn vocabulary in the form of phrases and whole sentences to get a notion of grammar without studying it specifically, so they will not be trying to conjugate verbs mentally. I will recommend that they watch TV shows in English with English subtitles to help them with their listening skills. We will start with children's shows and work our way up as their vocabulary and confidence grows. I will get them involved with other students to start a conversation group where they feel comfortable speaking and will not be worried about making mistakes. I have learned that the local two year colleges in the area have them and I will ask if my students may join in. If not, we will start one of our own.

If you are trained as a teacher, beware, this author really dislikes the educational system of any school anywhere in the world. I suspect he really hated schooling, particularly grammar, and he likes to make a point of saying so. However, It does make sense that when teaching English conversation, which children learn first, not to hamper the student's mind with grammatical rules and verb conjugation. These things should be taught later after speaking in English is deeply rooted in the student and they are ready to write.

He repeatedly mentions a CD (or DVD) that has lessons on it that a student should use with his book. This is NOT included with his $11 book. I am glad I purchased the book but I felt the author has a touch of charlatanism. I believe he wants the book purchaser to find his website on the internet and purchase a full course of video sessions which supplement his book for the mere sum of $29 for 6 months (a little less than $180) By reading more of this book, I have also discovered that iTunes has a list of dated podcasts that are supposed to relate to the book. They were free and a subscription was offered at $5.00 per lesson for newer versions. I listened in on about three of the free lessons and thought them to be boring. I also discovered about 20 to 30 video podcasts which spent a lot of time going over the author's new VIP program for learners. They talked about money and the need for getting better equipment for his computer. I will not be using any of these media links for my lessons.

Not a worth for your money. He just listed too much redundant information to fill pages to sell the book. I do not understand why this book is rated so high. Overrated and do not waste your money.

People will buy something after finish this book

The fundamental of this book is from the Effortless English system. As a person who used the system for many long times, the whole ideas are not new to me, but still worth it for people recently learn or decide to buy some of those courses.

Anyway, I decide joining VIP member after reading this book. I want to be me, like this time when I was learning the Power English Lesson.

About the Author
Thomas J. Cutler is a retired lieutenant commander and former gunner's mate second class who served in patrol craft, cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. His varied assignments included an in-country Vietnam tour, small craft command, and nine years at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Seamanship & Navigation Department and Associate Chairman of the History Department. While at the Academy, he was awarded the William P. Clements Award for Excellence in Education (military teacher of the year).

He is the founder and former Director of the Walbrook Maritime Academy in Baltimore. Currently he is Fleet Professor of Strategy and Policy with the Naval War College and is the Director of Professional Publishing at the U.S. Naval Institute.

Winner of the Alfred Thayer Mahan Award for Naval Literature, the U.S. Naval Institute Press Author of the Year, and the U.S. Maritime Literature Award, his published works include NavCivGuide: A Handbook for Civilians in the U.S. Navy; A Sailor's History of the U.S. Navy [one of the books in the Chief of Naval Operations Reading Program]; The Battle of Leyte Gulf; Brown Water, Black Berets: Coastal & Riverine Warfare in Vietnam; and the 22nd, 23rd (Centennial), and 24th editions of The Bluejacket's Manual. His other works include revisions of Jack Sweetman's The Illustrated History of the U.S. Naval Academy and Dutton's Nautical Navigation. He and his wife, Deborah W. Cutler, are the co-editors of the Dictionary of Naval Terms and the Dictionary of Naval Abbreviations.

His books have been published in various forms, including paperback and audio, and have appeared as main and alternate selections of the History Book Club, Military Book Club, and Book of the Month Club. Covers the material, but bad errors compared to earlier editions

I purchased this to learn celestial navigation, along with a second-hand copy of the thirteenth edition (edited by Elbert Maloney). While the material appears largely similar, I have found several errors in the 15th edition that are not in the earlier edition, and was unable to find online any form of errata, or notification of corrections in later printings.

For example: Fig. 2513, illustrating the use of "Double second difference and correction", the example called out , which should be printed with a trailing dot (as described in the text) does not, in fact, have the dot, which is quite confusing for someone looking. The corresponding figure (#2404e) in the 13th edition clearly has the dot.

Another example: Section 2103 has an example for calculating the SHA of Venus. This example is wrong. Again contrast with the corresponding example (#2004) in the 13th edition, which is different (and correct).

Rather disappointing that the new edition, rather than correcting previous errors, introduces rather blatant new ones.

Bad for test, good for understanding

Alright I've been studying and writing notes on this book for a while.

From a testing standpoint it's not so good. There is so much in it you will NOT be tested on or need to know for your captains-unlimited mate etc. It does well to explain things and understand them more expecially when you take the tests most of the time you're just memorizing a question and answer but have no idea what's going on.

Bad for actually taking the test

Good for having a deeper understanding of subjects on or related to testing.

I purchased this book for a maritime class I'm taking; Coastal Piloting. This is a really great book for anyone looking to start with the basics of learning maritime and seamanship. I'm pretty sure I'll keep this book for a long, long time... probably until I pass it down to someone else.

Pure art

This is a seriously beautiful large-format book. If you love the perfumes of Frederic Malle, or art books or BOTH, you will cherish this artifact. High quality images, text by Malle on the philosophy of the brand and then each perfumer is featured along with their creations for Editions de Parfums. I love to spray on one of the creations and then pull this book down and read the section about it, what a decadent treat. Highly recommended.

It's a fine book. Though I guess I thought it would delve into more detail. It really reads a lot like sales pitch to me, more than what I expected- that of digging into more the the nitty gritty of the business.

Opens an imagination into the scent world.

This is mostly a breakdown of the perfumers the author hired to make perfume and some of the smelly things they made. Super sexy. I want to smell exciting smelly things now. As hard as it is to encapsulate the beauty of this book, I'd say it feels like an attempt to liken perfume to fine art. Sadly, this sort of fine art is very hard to convey in a non-conventional medium. This book does a more splendid job of it than has any other book on a fragrance topic I have yet read.
