Este libro es muy interesante ya que expone el entorno de la época que vivió el Papa Pío XII, el cuál ha sido muy criticado por considerar que no hizo nada por apoyar a los judíos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Me gustó porque el conocer lo que se vivía en ese momento hace que entiendas la actitud del Papa Pío XII.

Bravo, two thumbs up!

I haven't been to a performance of this play, but I read the script after my son was required to read it for a college course. I think Deborah Brevoort has done an outstanding job of making important statements about human suffering and healing. I don't think this play was intended to study terrorism, but makes deep resonating observations about loss and grief/suffering, which are universal. I think she also makes points about how we can be so entrenched in our own losses that we fail to recognize the suffering of others. The resolution in this work revolves around a type of unplanned sharing...acts of kindness which produce a type of solidarity and aid the healing of both the "givers" and the "receivers." I think there is a great perception on the part of the author regarding several aspects of human nature/the human psyche. In my (humble) opinion, there is a spiritual side to this play which is never overtly stated, but inherent in the choice of material and its treatment. Ms. Brevoort is to be commended. I personally think she could well have written a short story or novella and reached a wider audience. It must be a powerful play when it is performed well, but will probably never get the attention it deserves. Bravo, Ms. Brevoort, you get two thumbs up from me!

Falling in Love with Brevoort

A friend recommended this author to me, and since reading this script, I have read as many more of hers as I can get my hands on. This is a lovely piece, written in a poetic style that compliments the subject matter. Brevoort is a restrained and intelligent writer, and this is a fantastic piece for theatres looking for a female-centric script. By the end I was bawling. It's lovely. It's moving. It should be produced more. I also really recommend her "Signs of Life", though you may have to order it through the Samuel French catalogue, which is really the only other place I've been able to track down her scripts. They're more expensive than on Amazon, unfortunately.

Chris Van Allsburg does it again. He has created a story that is powerful and extremely well illustrated. This story is well crafted and is told with mystery and magic as the main components. I read this story to children in the 1st-3rd grade and watch them as their faces run the gamut of emotions. When I read it to older students they tell me how the movie is different. The movie and the book are both well done, however, the book creates more drama, laughter and interest than the film. The movie follows the book, but uses more special effects than plot development. This is a great way to introduce the concept of reality and fantasy, what can and can not be real.

Talk about board games

This book is wonderfull! I think its great for all ages especially the younger one's. They're imaginations are always going 100 miles an hour being creative and fantasizing over magic and wanting unrealistic things to happen when they can't. Well here it is! Jumanjii is about a board game that ends up happening in real life depending on what is rolled and what the cards say. Kids will think this is cool and will spike their imaginations about this book especially when they see they movie and how awesome it was. Just seeing my 8 years old sister's expression was just hilarious. Now she hopes other board games such as candy land will come to live. This is definitely modern fantasy at its best!

Excellent Book and Caldecott Winner

I homeschool my kids and I wanted to get several books that also have movies for them to compare and contrast and do graphic organizers (Venn Diagram). My daughter read the book in an hour and then immediately wanted to see the movie. She loved both and immediately picked up on the similarities and differences. It was a fun read for her...She is 9. My son is 4 and loved the movie and the pictures in the book as well!

Expands on general story but not much else

They expanded A LOT on the general canon of the universe (goes into detail how the universe is the way it is in the movie) but it is extremely lacking in expanding on character biographies and pasts. It's also disappointing that this book is so short; for a project that Disney had in development for many years, they could have greatly expanded on this book; I know they have they information!

In closing, If you are a die hard fan of Treasure Planet, this book is a must and is a holy grail in the fandom. The pictures they do have are gorgeous and they do explain Jim's mindset pretty well (but it's not something a die hard fan wouldn't already know) and it's nice to have a piece of Treasure Planet.

If you are a general fan, of animation or Disney then steer clear! Animation fans will find the lack of explanation on the blending of the 2d and 3d mediums disheartening and Disney fans tend to forget this movie exists so I doubt you'll care much for this.

AN UNDERRATED MOVIE, AN UNSUNG CLASSIC

I bought this book because I wanted to see some of the artwork that was part of a movie that my teacher from Art Center worked on. Yes, I must confess, I have never seen the movie, but bought it because I love collecting books on art and animation.

I have to agree with a previous review that pointed out that this book should have come out in hardcover format. It is too bad that Disney ignored it, and cut out on advertising, because the artwork is truly a treat. Nonetheless, I'm glad to include this book in my collection; it's more than worth its retail price!

Nice book, could use more art.

Strange to headline it that way, but even though it's an art book, it's still too brief. If anything, it needs to be a larger format with more of the concept paintings and development of the ship models as well. I do like the movie and wished it had been a bit longer too.
