New American Streamline Departures -Beginner demands perseverience!!!!!

It is one of the simplest books to learn English with a daily interactive conversation. This book can be used in any learning environment and the improvement of the learner is fast. For some people, it can be repetitive but that is how it works. On the other hand, for some of them, it does not offer enough practice so it is not a thrilling book.
I have used it with many learners and if you want you can stretch the book to the most if you want. It takes you through simple conversations reaching a higher level as the learner progress in his learning.When the 80th unit is reached, most of the basic tenses used in the English language have been taught.
Teachers need to be creative to apply to the actual environment. Teachers can see the progress of the students when they start minimizing the use of the mother tongue and it can be seen very early in the units.
I really love this Book along with the other books that come together for the learning of the English Language and I will stick to them whenever anyone wants to learn.

Great teaching tool for English conversation

I have been teaching English to Japanese for over a decade using the Streamline English series because it is entertaining and easy to both teach and learn from. The series is very well crafted, giving grammar in easily digested doses with a strong component of fun.
The audio cassette adds a lot to the course: breaking up lecture time, exposing students to others' speech patterns and pronunciation and giving an element of fun. Since I started with the British English series and have switched to the American series, my students and I enjoy comparing the differences in usage and even illustrative styles, since the pictures are very charming and often humorous.
This is a great series which I highly recommend.

Awesome m/f/m erotic paranormal romance!

Tira truly believes her Gift is more curse than anything. She knows that she wants to be with both Nic and Duke. She knows that both Nic and Duke reciprocate these feelings. She knows that both men want to be with her in a relationship where they all three enjoy the pleasures they have to share. Nic, Duke, and Tira are all on the same page when it comes to fulfilling their desires.

The problem that keeps this trio apart, Tira can't touch Nic. Every time she touches him she sees his death. Then she sees Duke push her away because he has lost his best friend. They have spent the past eight years avoiding each other.

Duke and Nic have very dangerous jobs within the lucani. When they have a close call with death this dire event leaves the trio questioning their distance. This is the push they needed to finally give in and see to their desires. They are determined to make the relationship work by any means possible.

I loved this novella. The first time that Nic, Tira, and Duke are all three together has got to be the hottest voyeuristic sex scene I have ever read. They knew what they wanted out of each other and they did everything possible to see that they got their happily ever after. The feelings they have for each other just couldn't be denied any longer and it came together into an awesome novella.

Loved Moonlight Menage. Tria is a strega seer. At 18 her first kiss with her mate Nic, a lucani wolf shifter, triggered a vision of his death, and any touch to him his since has triggered the same vision. Duke, lucani wolf, is Nic's best friend and also Tria's mate. While Duke is a null to her visions she can't take him without Nic. So they have remained seperated for years. When Nic is nearly killed and Duke badly injured on an assignment, Tria agrees to care for them while they recover. Nic has a plan to end their seperation, but has has to overcome Tria's fear and Dukes feeling of rejection. A very steamy and emotional story.

This book was great and I really couldn't put it down. It was different from other shifter books I've read and I couldn't wait to see how it would end. I'm anxious to read the next book in the series as the first two have been terrific!

About the Author
Mario Asselin has served as an instructor at the Royal Military College of Canada's Mechanical Engineering Department since 1995. Before this he was a project manager for the integration of the Ground Collision Avoidance System. His experience also includes working on the CF188 as Avionics and Armament Project Officer, the Microwave Landing System, and the NAVSTAR/Global Positioning System. Mr. Asselin received his baccalaureate in Engineering in 1988 from the Royal Military College of Canada a nd a subsequent Master degree in Applied Science. He has authored many publications including the study guide, "Modern Aerodynamic Series--Aircraft Performance," and a technical paper on "Numerical Simulation of Ice Formation on Aircraft Wing in Flight."

A start for every aeronautics engineer student

This book is really a good reference for understanding the basics of aeronautics. It covers everything from aerodynamics to flight dynamics, stability and control, etc... Basically, after you read the book, you can know only a few parameters of a particular aircraft and then be able to deduct its aerodynamic characteristics, its optimal speed for maximal range, its flight ceiling, etc...
With the information that an aircraft manufacturer gives on its typical web page and the information contained in this book you can calculate enough to have a really good idea of a particular aircraft performance.
Plus, the book is clear and easy to read. I recommend it to every aeronautics student.

About the Author
Now based in Sydney, Australia, freelance writer-painter Alfredo Roces was editor of GEO, Australasia's Geographical Magazine, from 1978 to 1991. A Filippino, he served as editor-in-chief of a ten-volume study on Philippine culture and history entitled Filipino Heritage (1978). He was a daily columnist for the country's leading newspaper, The Manila Times, for more than ten years, for which he gained a Columnist of the Year Award from the Citizens Council for Mass Media for 1971. Earlier he was cited as one of Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in 1961 for his contribution to the study of Philippine culture. An artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame in the USA, Alfredo has also authored various books. Grace Roces holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Sydney. She then worked in the training field for 18 years designing training material for Westpac, AGC and other large organisations. In the year 2000, she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education from Macquarie University. Now a Special Education Teacher in a primary school in Sydney, she works with students who have reading difficulties. Grace grew up in Manila and moved to Australia with her co-author father and family in 1978. She is married to Howard Boorman and they have two sons, Damien and Alex.

I found this book to be extremely informative. It is centered on western ex-pats living in the Philippines, but it is highly useful for anyone traveling there. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a general overview of Filipino culture, society, and history.

This book is an excellent reference if you are going to visit the Philippines and a MUST read if you are going to live there.

Necessary Resource

A necessary resource for anyone traveling to the Philippines, intending on interacting with the people there. As other reviews have stated, it is intended primarily as a business traveler or ex-pats guide. However, there is enough detail to help any traveler. The book is well organized and presents the topics in short, related and relevant ways.

The book states, and rightly so, that the West is a 'goal oriented' culture, while the Philippines is a 'people oriented' culture. As such, there are many traditions and expectations. Their violation may be forgiven a first time traveler. However, there is only one chance to make a first impression. This book makes that much easier. It explains expectations in most social and business settings.

The only area found lacking is the section on Dating. If one is on business, a single ex-pat, or tourist there is an opportunity to date. The book's section on dating covers some key points in an abstract way. For example, the book explains that at some point in time one must 'meet the parents'. But, one learns elsewhere in the book when meeting anyone for the first time, a gift is expected. Showing up at a female date's house to meet her parents without a gift is a BAD thing.

Speaking of gifts. The book does mention gift giving as a cultural expectation. It also makes some suggestions as to appropriate gifts. The gifts mentioned are for business settings with peers or superiors. Casual/social settings do not require such elaborate or expensive gifts.

Overall this book delivers a great deal of insight and information to the Philippine visitor - be it business or pleasure or both.

Like every culture visited, attempting to respect national/regional culture goes very far in being welcomed. This book does allow one to do that.

Comparing Four Books About the Philippines

I hope to visit the Philippines in the near future with an eye towards possible retirement in the Philippines. To educate myself I have ordered and read four books about the Philippines, namely:

Philippines Travel Guide - by Jen Peters
Culture Shock Philippines - by Alfredo Roces
A Long Way to go for a Date - By Henry Makow
A Man's Guide to Life and Love in the Philippines - By Larry Elterman

"Philippines Travel Guide" is just that, a Travel Guide, pure and simple, and an excellent one at that. It will tell you about all the places to go, where to eat, where to stay, where to have fun. However it does not offer a lot of insight or practical information about what it would be like to live or retire in the Philippines.

"Culture Shock Philippines" is a book written by a Filipino, from a Filipino's point of view, describing Filipino culture, customs and history. If this is what you are looking for it is an excellent book. However, it is written from a Filipino's point of view, not a Westerner's point of view. It does not offer a lot of practical advice about what it would be like to live or retire in the Philippines.

"A Long Way to go for a Date" is a short and light weight book about a man's quest to find the perfect Filipina bride to bring back to his home country of Canada. It describes his visit to the Philippines to meet and date his potential bride and his experiences in bringing back and living with his Filipina wife in Canada. Ultimately it describes how it all went wrong and turned into a nightmare. This book is written in the first person by the author, Henry Makow, and although Henry sometimes comes across a bit pompous and selfish, I never-the-less like what he did, which was to "put himself out there". It is a very personal account in which Henry is not afraid to say who he is and what he wants, even if you don't agree with it. This book is very light on practical information, but it will give you some nice insight into the process of finding a Filipina wife. However, it was Henry's goal to find a wife to bring back to Canada, not to live in the Philippines, so it did not correlate perfectly with what I was looking for.

"A Man's Guide to Life and Love in the Philippines" like "A Long Way to go for a Date" is also written in the first person, but unlike "A long Way" the author does not "put himself out there". He describes things from more of a distance, so that you never really get to know who the author is. This is my only criticism of the book. Perhaps it would have been a bit more entertaining if it was a bit more personal. That being said, the book never advertises itself to be a book about the experiences of the author, it claims to be a "Guide" about life and love in the Philippines, and on that level I think it succeeds very well. It contains a great amount of information both about what it's like to live in the Philippines and about the practical side of making a life for yourself in the Philippines. It also describes in much detail the process of how to go about finding a Filipina girl friend or wife. In this regard it is interesting how he doesn't just lump all Filipina together as homogenous. He describes a number of different types of Filipina women and what each of them is like and what they are looking for. In terms of my goal of possibly living and retiring in the Philippines this book was by far the best match.

Magical

This is the continuation of the amazing Is She, Isn't She?, and it picks up about 4 years after the events of that novel. So, don't even start reading this unless you've read Is She, Isn't She? But you will not be disappointed. Yes, it's erotica, but it's erotica with a heart, a brain, and brilliant plotting and characterization. The author deserves far more recognition and reward for what she has wrought. Far too many erotic novels are cheap cash grabs that are over in 15-20 pages. This, in contrast, is an epic exploration of the human heart, and the human libido. To say that the action gets hot and heavy is an understatement. But it's not just about hot sex. These characters will stick with you long after you've finished the book, and I can only hope we might see them, once again, a little further down the line.

Excellent, Excellent Work Once More!

This is a work of art. Seriously! A must read! I'm a bookworm and I have never finished a book this fast, I was practically flying down the pages. If you're into erotic literature this is pure magma. Well written, exquisite vocabulary, vivid descriptions, characters which are well defined and interesting, this book has it all. But the real crowning achievement of this author is the plot; so many twists and turns, all so well written that you're actually living through the protagonists' eyes.

If you're into erotic literature READ THIS. You'll be thankful for it!

I EAGERLY await further work from the author, she has a rare gift and talent for it.

A beautiful, emotional story.

Written with consummate skill, this wonderful story details love that was lost and regained. The characters were so real and the dialogue was masterful. You could not help getting emotionally involved with these two lovely ladies. Tears were welling in my eyes throughout the last chapter. I highly recommend this story as it will stay with you long after you've finished. A big thank you and a job expertly done to Kelly!
